Designing the flowers for my own wedding with the help of a tribe of female friends and family inspired my love for floral design. The process of creating each arrangement is calming, peaceful, and meditative.
My mom has alway been a maker and I'd like to think her positive, straightforward confidence and belief in herself has helped guide me into tackling any experience with a similar sense of enthusiasm and the knowledge that if I don't have an answer, I can find one.
I hope to share this same artistry, work ethic, passion, and creative problem solving with my clients.
After graduating from college in 2000, with a BA in Fine Arts and English, I moved from Tennessee to California. In Los Angeles, I was fortunate to work at Turning Point School in Culver City. After working at the Getty Museum, an opportunity I could not pass up with my love for art, I returned to Turning Point while earning a Masters Degree in Education. There I realized the goal of becoming an art teacher. After having my second son in 2016, I became a stay at home mom. Creating beautiful flowers and interiors were a burgeoning seed while the main focus was family, but tackling small projects and utilizing the creative process were additional bright points in my day to day. And in 2019, Magnolia Soul Flowers bloomed from my passion for creativity, flowers, and a connection to home.
Graduating with honors from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Fine Arts was just the first step on my artistic journey. I went on to earn a Masters in Education from Pepperdine University to continue my teaching career and eventually taught art to K-3 graders for 5 years.
Artistic fundamentals and techniques such as spatial awareness, color theory, and balance are a part of my DNA and translate to my current medium of flowers! To continue my education and understanding of the flower business and art of flower design, I have taken classes with Amy Balsters and Sue McLeary from PassionFlowerSue, both wonderful floral artists and educators. From them reinforcing my vision to provide sustainable floral art when possible using local, seasonal flowers that are both vibrant and artful.
You might be wondering about the name, Magnolia Soul Flowers. After starting floral design under Inscape Design Inc., the combined building and interior design labors of my husband and myself, I decided for flowers to be the focus, a new name was needed. Thus, Magnolia Soul was formed. Magnolia was chosen for the one flower/green I wanted in my own wedding and being from Tennessee where magnolias abound. Soul relates to where we all begin and who we are but also my interest in holistic healing, yoga, chakra energy, and religions. It also inspired the monikers for Magnolia Soul's wedding and event packages.
Magnolia Soul provides beautiful, affordable flowers and styling that enhance a client's event or business, evoking their overall vision with love and light.
